ARINC have announced that Korean Air has chosen to renew GLOBALink and AviNet contracts and will be the airlines primary satellite communications providers.

Korean Air will continue to receive AviNet Airport for operations, GLOBALink/VHF & HF, Type A & Type B Messaging, satellite and voice communications. Being the airlines primary SATCOM services provider will enable ARINC to resolve any arising issues faster and will be able to manage communications more effectively with even greater efficiency.

The innovative vMUSE solutions from ARINC will reduce costs by sharing airport resources with offsite servers than can be accessed from anywhere in the world, using any device.

Previous passenger processing systems revMusequire multiple check-in facilities that are airline specific.  The vMUSE platform allows the sharing of passenger information across multiple airlines from one desk, ensuring increased flexibility in airports with limited floor space.

The common bag drop solutions offer self-service check-in that can enhance passenger experience, increase operation productivity and, in essence revenue for the airports.

ARINC vMUSEJeju International Airport has followed South Korea’s other major airports in its choice to use ARINC’s vMUSE technology to improve and optimize operations as the number of passengers grows each year.

The industry-leading provider develops and delivers innovative aviation solutions that can assist airports and airlines with cost management and increasing operational flexibility with vMUSE common-use technology.

Jeju International Airport will benefit from maximized use of facility space with the vMUSE platform and will be able to access off-site servers with any device, which will in turn reduce the necessity for hardware and support requirements.

This new contract will mean that ARINC now provides its vMUSE technology for all South Korea’s International airports, allowing for interoperability and connectivity between the airports and the airlines that operate from them.  This will lead to further operational cost reductions with the allowance for host sharing between the airports.

“Our biggest problem currently is a lack of check-in counters to accommodate the number of airlines that fly through the airport. ARINC’s vMUSE will enable carriers to directly log into their Departure Control System at any counter over any device. The sharing of counter facilities will improve terminal operations, and allow both airlines and airports to welcome more airlines and passengers,” said a representative of the Airlines Operators Committee of Jeju (AOC-CJU).

EgyptAir Select ARINC AviNetIt has been announced today that EgyptAir has elected to use ARINC’s AviNet Airport services solution for five Egyptian airports and nine others across the world, including Heathrow, Manchester and Dubai.

The decision to implement AviNet follows the recent contract award in March for the installation of vMUSE passenger processing solution at the Egyptian airports of Luxor, Aswan El Arab, Borg, Abu Simbel and Sharm El Sheikh.

ARINC will also provide turnkey project management services, in addition to AviNet, for the connection of the airports to the Amadeus ALTEA host, enabling ARINC to significantly reduce costs for the airline and providing a single-point contact to assist with major upgrades to its critical airport operations worldwide.

Frequent travellers, flying with British Airways, could soon be taking another step into the future of self-service check-in with the airline to trial an innovation in baggage tagging – the electronic bag tag.

The new tag will easily be updated using Smartphone and barcode technology, enabling passengers to simply scan their baggage at the self-service check-in bag drop point and move quickly through security to relax before departure, knowing that their luggage is fully trackable.

The bag tags, developed for the trial by Designworks, could eliminate the need for paper tagging, especially for frequent travellers, who could have their own, personalised baggage tag.  Designworks lead designer for the project, Lewis Freeman said, “This step into digital tagging of luggage is a huge leap forward enabling your luggage to become a connected object, providing a seamless experience for frequent travellers with British Airways.”

Ben-Gurion International Airport in Israel is going to trial a new automated baggage security system which is hoped will shorten waiting times for passengers during security checks.  The system will scan, using an automated baggage system, for explosives and other potentially dangerous material, separating those bags for further screening, before delivering the cleared baggage for loading onto the aircraft.

The new system should help to streamline airport operations and enhance passenger experience, while maintaining strict pre-flight security.

Worldwide, airports are realising the increased efficiency of automated operations, including passenger processing and the groundbreaking self-service check-in and automated baggage drop solutions.

ARINC have announced that long-time customer Aegean Airlines, Greece’s largest full service airline, have chosen their AviNet Airport solution for three major European airports that the Airline operate from – London Heathrow (LHR), Munich Airport (MUC) and Brussels Airport (BRU).

Many airlines in the Europe Middle East African (EMEA) region choose ARINC, as they require ultra-reliability and cost-effectivity when it comes to high speed access to their Amadeus ALTEA Departure Control Sysytem (DCS).  ARINC’s AviNet Airport integrated network solution offers this level of reliability with the vMUSE platform.

The commercial benefits to AviNet Airport are realised by Aegean airlines and other airlines with the reduction of in-house resources needed for implementation of the services, as ARINC manage the ALTEA customer services, flight management and DCS network access.  The common-use, self service platform gives greater flexibility for passengers and the airports, speeding up passenger processing with seamless integration with the DCS.

ARINC have announced that Michael DiGeorge MD of ARINC’s Asia Pacific will speak at the Future Travel Experience Conference, hosted in Hong Kong’s Asia World Expo.

ARINC will be exhibiting their latest developments in Common Bag Drop solutions and innovations such as Roving Agent and VeriPax, the Passenger Reconciliation System.

Mr DiGeorge will moderate a working panel session to highlight the theme of the event, which is ways to facilitate rapid passenger growth, while enhancing the passenger experience by speeding up processing of those passengers and their baggage.

ARINC’s common bag drop solutions include the Self-Service Baggage Drop desks, which give the passenger greater control of their journey, enabling them to check-in online, and then process their own baggage at these dedicated points, used for multiple airlines.  Passengers can tag their own baggage, drop their baggage and save time queuing, also helping airport terminals to save valuable space and giving them greater flexibility with staffing, removing the need for airline dedicated desks.

Canada’s fourth largest airport, Calgary International (YYC) has announced it will extend its current contract with ARINC, providing via the successful vMUSE platform, Common-Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) for a further 10 years.  The Calgary Airport Authority agreed the extension of the system with the addition of BagLink, the passenger-friendly, Common Use Self Service system and Local Departure Control on the vMUSE platform.

ARINC has been working with the YYC and CAA for 10 years and are looking forward to providing their existing and future passengers with an enhanced travelling experience for the next decade, especially with the addition of the new terminal, currently under construction and expected to be in use by 2015.  The new terminal will incorporate ARINC’s pioneering common-use technology, seamlessly integrating into the existing operations of the airport.
