Siemens Provide Incheon with Baggage Handling System

Other Providers of Baggage Handling SystemsIncheon, South Korea’s busiest airport, is to get a 42km, state-of-the-art baggage handling system courtesy of the contract recently awarded to electronics giant Siemens and Posco, the South Korean steel makers.

Capable of handling over 22,000 pieces of luggage per hour, the new system will comprise over 216 check-in counters in departures, 10 carousels in arrivals, 14 make-up carousels and 18 laterals, with an additional storage facility for up to as many as 2,000 pieces of luggage.

Completion is set for September 2017, readying the airport both for the influx of visitors to the 2018 Winter Olympics and the completion of Incheon’s new U.S. $2.5bn (£1.6bn) Terminal 2, which will increase airport’s annual passenger capacity to 62 million. The new infrastructure is planned to seamlessly integrate into the existing, and will be controllable by both IT and automated systems.

Siemans is already familiar with Incheon’s current baggage handling capability. In 2008 the company upgraded systems in the airport’s satellite terminal to handle up to 56,000 items of baggage every hour and has provided ongoing IT support ever since.

UK Border Force Upgrade eBorders & ePassport Facilities

Electronic Borders SolutionsIt has been announced that the UK Border Force have awarded a contract for the upgrade and installation of electronic borders solution – eGates – to Portugese company, Vision-Box. Vision-Box have previously installed 46 first generation eGates and will now deploy a further possible 180 new, second generation gates at airports across the country.

The second generation eGates are designed to make the most of limited space in today’s airports and in particular, immigration halls. The project will help to further enhance and streamline passenger processing, improving passenger experience and effectively increasing security aspects.

Gatwick airport is the first to announce completion of the installation of 15 new generation eGates.

Haroona Franklin, Director of Border Systems Strategy & Capability said that “this deployment will represent the biggest ePassport Gate project in Europe. The new gates will allow Border Force to improve the passenger experience while maintaining security at the border and enabling the effective deployment of our resources to areas of highest priority”

Indonesian Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Install New Baggage Handling System

Baggage Handling Systems in AirportsA new self-bag drop baggage handling system is to be installed in the newly completed phase of the terminal 3 building of Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport in a project expected to be commenced early next year with a completion date of June 2015.

The new baggage handling system is a part of the remodelling of the airport terminal 3, which has shown major growth over the past 4 years since opening its doors on the first phase in 2009.  The airport, on the island of Java is the main airport serving the Jakarta area and had an original capacity over 3 terminals of 38-million passengers.  The busiest airport in the Southern Hemisphere, further growth is expected to surpass 2012’s figures of 57.8 million per year.

Vanderlande Industries is a part of the winning consortium for the project and will consist of 24 automated self bag drop points in the departures check-in area, 108 check-in positions over 12 rows, screening machines and automated transfer systems.  Phase two will see extra self-bag drop and early bag storage facilities.

The new baggage handling system at the airport will greatly enhance passenger processing and create a smoother experience for passengers as a result.

Self Bag Drop facilities in airports across the world give passengers greater control over their journey, reduces waiting times and generally improves operational productivity for the airport and ground handling staff.

Other baggage handling systems providers, such as ARINC, with their ExpressDrop Solution, bring vMUSE technology and common use terminal equipment to serve multiple airlines at one kiosk.

Aviation Industry Messaging Specialists, ARINC, Receive Accolade for Work at RAK International

Aviation industry messaging specialists ARINC EMEA received an accolade during the Aviation Business Awards in the category of Technology Implementation of the Year.

Tony Lynch, Regional Director and is team based in Dubai and Cairo received the endorsement for their work with the new airport processing systems at Ras Al Khaimah Airport (RAK International).

Specialist Solutions for Aviation Messaging & vMUSE Technology

The work involved the implementation of ARINC’s core suite of airport processing solutions for aviation industry messaging, including the latest vMUSE Common-use Passenger Processing solution (CUPPS), AirVue Flight Information Display and the Airport Operational Database, AirDB 7.

The award was presented to ARINC’s Tony Lynch and representing RAK International Airport, Imran Saeed, Senior IT and Engineering Manager by Ahmed Al Mamari, Chief Operations/Technical Officer from Royal Jet.

ARINC Marks Milestone with vMUSE Over Windows 7 at Dubai

ARINC EMEA has marked a major milestone at Dubai International this week being the first global site to use vMUSE for a total of 34 international airlines, all newly certified to run over Windows 7.  This list includes Emirates airline, which use their Mercator Airport Control System (MACS) with ARINC’s passenger processing vMUSE platform.

vMUSE Solutions Milestone at Dubai InternationalA new five-year agreement was signed between ARINC and dnata in 2012 for the upgrade of the iMUSE to the latest vMUSE version of the platform.  ARINC provided the software, Emirates the hardware, offering an advanced Virtualised Dual Core solution that has delivered a balance for Emirates between technology and cost.

vMUSE is also being utilized to support multiple airports from a common infrastructure. Graham Parker, Manager Business Technology ‐ dnata Airport Operations and Cargo said, “With vMUSE live at Dubai International, we have begun the rollout at Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central for the passenger terminal opening in October.”

ARINC & Hong Kong International Airport Renew 5-year Passenger Processing and Bag Drop Contract

Industry Leading Passenger Processing Solutions from ARINCARINC Inc will continue to provide Hong Kong International (HKIA) with a full suite of passenger processing and bag drop solutions for the next five years, it has recently been announced.  In addition, support and maintenance services will also be provided.

HKIA, voted the world’s best airport, have been using ARINC technology and solutions since 2008.  Their MUSE, common-use systems and bag drop solutions, including BagLink baggage messaging and fallback tag services have been successful in enhancing operational efficiency.  In addition to the contract renewal, a new agreement has been signed to provide maintenance services and round-the-clock technicians with ARINC Managed Services division (AMS).

vmuse solutionsARINC has announced the completion of its implementation of vMUSE Common Use Passenger Processing Solution at Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.

Ras Al Khaimah, literally meaning ‘the top of the tent’ shares a border with Oman and its International Airport is seeing increasing numbers of passenger throughflow steadily each year.  The airport has been undergoing an expansion plan and ARINC’s technological solutions will help to bring the airport greater efficiency and will optimise capacity.

Chairman of RAK International Airport, H.H. Engr. Heathrow Extends iMUSE Common Use System Contract with ARINC and Awards New

ARINC Common Use System BenefitsARINC has announced that London Heathrow (LHR) has renewed it current iMUSE, common use system contract until March 2015 by the AOC.

LHR remains the world’s busiest international airport, with over 75 million passengers passing through each year and is known as the hub of the civil aviation world.

An additional contract has simultaneously been awarded to ARINC to install the industry leading common use system in LHR’s new Terminal 2, expected to open its doors in June 2014, to support 378 check-in desks and boarding gates.  ARINC will also continue with the maintenance and support for all the equipment.  The new terminal is expected to service 20 million passengers.

Arinc, who have been working with LHR since 1999 have built a strong relationship with the airport.  David P Wilding, Chair of Heathrow AOC’s Shared System Board said, “Terminal 2, which is scheduled to open its doors to the public in June 2014, has been meticulously designed around the needs of passengers – with particular emphasis on enabling them to get to and from their flights as quickly as possible.  ARINC’s iMUSE, by processing passengers faster and more efficiently through sharing airport infrastructure and resources, has a pivotal role to play in this objective which is fundamental to LHR’s undertaking to provide world-class customer service.”
