EUROCONTROL to Use Information Management Program for SESAR

SESAR is a fundamental part of the program that will aim to supply and manage the modernisation of air traffic control over Europe in the Single European Sky initiative. Over the next thirty years, aviation management will be harmonised and unified and will include a unique air traffic control for both civil and military aviation.

Critical Physical Security for Airports - Industry ProvidersAs part of the move to reduce pressure on Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), Paris based company Aeroports De Paris has arrived in the Philippines to begin the feasibility study for the new terminal at the Clark Aviation Complex. The Department of Transportation has commissioned the study and Communications (DOTC) which also proposes to fund the P7.2 billion project that will provide an annual capacity for 15 million passengers.

P600 million has now been approved by the DOTC to enable Clark International Airport Corp. to purchase equipment ahead of its planned improvements to the airport site later this year. These will include a new Dual Passenger Boarding Bridge to enable Emirates Airlines and Qatar Airways, who have recently begun using the airport, to also deploy their wide-bodied craft.

The 2,367-hectare site at the Aviation Complex is also due to benefit from a 26.75-kilometer fence, a 13.2-km Perimeter Lighting System, and modern Navigational Aids Equipment. A further investment into the Emergency Services at the airport will see the purchase of Major Tender and Rapid Intervention Vehicle Fire Trucks in a move that is expected to raise Clark Aviation’s current International Civil Authority Organisation rating from 9 to the required Category 10.

The Clark International Airport Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Victor Jose I. Luciano said that the rehabilitation of the existing terminal would be completed this month.   Meanwhile, a further feasibility study is planned for the North-South Commuter Railway, with the aim improving accessibility to the airport from Metro Manila. The medium-term plan, according to Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, is to operate both Naia and Clark to serve Luzon.

In a move towards the NextGen Airport Operations System initiative, Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central has awarded the contract for a comprehensive airport information infrastructure system to Dubai Technology Partners LLC and UFIS Airport Solutions.

The critical solution will help in the interim during the work involved in the implementation of the NextGen initiative and will reinforce the airport information infrastructure for Dubai Airports.

The first passenger terminal, due to open in October of this year, will have the capacity for over 5 million passengers annually, with that figure expected to rise to 160 million passengers per year upon its completion within the next 10 years.

The contract includes implementation of Flight Information Processing System, Resource Management System, Airport Operational Database and Flight Information Display System.

Integrated Airport Security Awareness Solution from Indmex

The companies will provide runway incursion warnings and a records information management system for airport first responders and hope to initiate integrated airport EMS incident response systems.

Nuclear Security Meeting of World Leaders

Forty seven world leaders attended the meeting in Washington last month in a bid to discuss nuclear security improvements of global nuclear facilities.  In addition, the importance of the prevention of Nuclear Terrorism was a hot topic for discussion.

A target goal of four years was set by the meeting, convened by President Obama.  Although no binding commitments were made, many leaders outline steps they are prepared to take towards the advancement of nuclear security.

The U.S. feel that the first priority is to ensure that all nuclear facilities and materials on home ground are secure.

Measures will include the implementation of international treaties ad support for the UN Security Council.  All nuclear materials should remain secure and accounted for, with a consolidation aspect for peaceful purposes only.  Strong nuclear security practices need to be realised for the nuclear industry to remain secure while in operation in the private sector, for example, for nuclear fuel research projects and detection methods.

Well know airline support company ARINC has been seen to be expanding on new areas of business. They announced that their Advanced Information Management (AIM®) Cyber Security Program is now available. Based on Nuclear Energy Institute’s (NEI) 08-09 Revision 6, a regulation which provides a program for achieving regulatory compliance to Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) rigorous regulations governing cyber security.

ARINC’s AIM selected for Zion Nuclear Power Station Project

ARINC was selected by EnergySolutions for the Zion Nuclear Power Station Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) Project. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Zion Nuclear Power Station is in the process of being decommissioned, and is the first Exelon Corporation installation that will use the AIM solution.
