It has been predicted that worldwide growth will be seen over the next five years in the airport information systems market, and this will be driven by an advancement in airport screening.

Providers of Airport Operations Systems IntegrationTwo new executive vice presidents have been appointed at Denver International Airport this week to help oversee improvements to airport operational productivity.

Ken Greene and Bhavesh A. Patel will begin their new appointments in January and aim to streamline airport operations and continue with the strategic objectives for the airport.

Mr Greene, who has worked at DIA since 2009, will lead the business development unit that encompasses airport infrastructure management, special projects and the Hotel & Transit Centre. He will enter his new post on January 1st.

“Under his leadership, DIA has implemented a number of strategic projects that include the rollout of the Federal Aviation Administration’s NextGen technology, and the implementation of the Aerobahn airfield surface management and de-icing systems,” said a statement issued by an airport spokesperson. “Greene also worked closely with the airport’s federal partners to begin using automated passport control kiosks and initiate the Global Entry program in the custom’s hall, as well as the establishment of the TSA Pre [fast-track security screening] program at DIA.”

Mr Patel will be the Chief Revenue Officer EVP for the commercial, concessions and real estate business unit. He is currently director of airport concessions at Tampa International Airport and will begin his post at DIA on January 20th.

Physical Security Solutions Providers for AviationIt has been announced that multinational security company, Magal Security Systems Ltd, have been awarded a $6.4 million contract to provide physical security measures and an information management system in Nairobi International Airport by 2015.

In addition to security fencing upgrades and multiple surveillance technology, Magal will install an advanced PSIM information management system to integrate and manage the security improvements.

The announcement follows recent speculation of the release of funds from the Kenyan government to invest in the much-needed improvements to airport security across the country.

Airport Operations Management ProvidersA major shake-up has seen Tulsa International become independent from the City of Tulsa in a move, initially approved by Mayor Dewey Bartlett, that has now been officially agreed by Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust (TAIT).

The agreement will now give the airport more freedom for airport operations management, although, the city of Tulsa will retain control of the airport through TAIT board members appointed by the Tulsa City Council, Tulsa Airport Authority will now lease the airport from the city on a 25-year term.  This will allow it to contract out or hire in for services such as legal, IT and human resources support which were previously provided by Tulsa City which was then reimbursed by the airport. However, some services will continue to be provided by the city and Tulsa International’s 150 employees will remain on their current pension plan.

Passenger numbers at Tulsa International declined 0.3% to 1.316 million in 2013, with an overall decline of 18.5% since 2007. This decline is set against an overall operating budget of $58.5 million in 2013, though airport officials believe the leasing arrangement will enable them to make savings of $500,000.

The first passenger terminal, due to open in October of this year, will have the capacity for over 5 million passengers annually, with that figure expected to rise to 160 million passengers per year upon its completion within the next 10 years.

The contract includes implementation of Flight Information Processing System, Resource Management System, Airport Operational Database and Flight Information Display System.
