Prague Airport Expand Automated Border Control

Other Providers of Automated Border Control SolutionsFollowing the successful implementation of automated border control gates at Prague airport in 2011, the Czech border police have agreed to expand the project, known as EasyGO.

The project expansion will involve the installation of ten more eGates in both arrivals and departures and will also involve an upgrade of the entire airport IT infrastructure which will include a new Terminal Control Centre and maintenance contract.

Using a Secunet system, Prague airport uses electronic authentication of ePassports, identity cards and uses facial scanning and comparison with electronic data.

Automated border control solutions are becoming commonplace across the world as countries strive to improve security.

Chicago Airports New Head Promises Action on Issue of Noise

Visit the O'Hare Airport WebiteGinger Evans, the recently appointed Aviation Commissioner of Chicago airports, has said that she will ensure that all solutions will be investigated and presented by the beginning of August to address the problem of noise from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Meeting with city officials and community groups, she announced that her staff ‘has developed 12 to 15 options’ for possible implementations that could address the issue. This meeting was the second of three proposed sessions for the negotiation of this issue that has been going on for decades.

She did not offer any details about the proposed measures, and insisted that her top priorities remain firmly in the conduct of safe and efficient flight operations.

IATA and Tel Aviv University to Collaborate to Develop Aviation Tech

Find out more about IATAIt has been announced that a collaboration between IATA and Tel Aviv University has resulted in a signed deal this week to develop technology that is aimed at improving aviation safety in the areas of big data, cyber security and authentication and general security.

IATA represent much of the passenger and cargo transportation across the world – 83% – and deal with a wide range of issues, including streamlining and simplifying both ground-based and airborne operational procedures.

The simplification of processes, including airline messaging, which is historically complex and expensive, can improve airport operations on a global scale.

JetBlue Makes First New York – Havana Flight

Aviation Industry News | JetBlue flights to Havana from NYAs a part of recent measures to improve relations between Cuba and the U.S. JetBlue have made its first flight from New York to Havana, becoming the first American airline to serve this route since restrictions were lifted at the beginning of the year.

The airline plan to make this route a regular one with weekly flights planned between J.F.K. airport and Havana’s Jose Marti airport.

JetBlue hope that this move with only strengthen their reputation as they already provide a respected service to the Caribbean and have operated charter flights to Cuba since 2011.

Find out more about Rockwell Collins' ARINC passenger processing solutionsThe Philippines plan to streamline the passenger processing system for their Mactan Cebu International Airport by implementing a range of Rockwell Collins’ ARINC airport solutions.

Among the upgrades will be the installation of ARINC VeriPax on the Gunnebo Security Group automated gates in a collaboration between the two companies. This will enhance security with an automatic validation of passenger flight details at check-in.

The airport already uses ARINC vMUSE common-use technology and self-service check-in kiosks.

FAA Release Draft EA for Airspace ImprovementsIn a bid to improve efficiency and safety of the flow of air traffic in Southern California, the FAA and the US Dept. of Transportation have released a Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) as a part of the Metroplex project, which proposes the replacement of a number of current air traffic procedures.

The replacement of conventional procedures with satellite-based solutions, in accordance with the latest NextGen system will include a roll-out over most of South California and will encompass six of the region’s major airports.

The FAA has released the Draft EA for public review and is inviting comments on the proposals.

Providers of Baggage Systems for AirportsFunding has been approved by the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport board this week as passenger numbers continue to rise.

Several new airport infrastructure projects are on the table, including technology updates for the existing baggage system, runway lighting and ground transportation.

A grant from the Florida Department of Transportation has been approved, bringing $1.6 million to be made available as soon as the beginning of July.
